Super write up JD! Always loved the look of the photoboxes. I really like Joe's Cleveland box, but I think the one of him fielding (red and green) are my favorites. I too enjoyed the When it was a Game segment about him when they talked to Joe McCarthy. "He just goes out and beats ya"

I'll bet those finds created a lot of excitement in the hobby back then. Wonder if there will ever be another one? Also wonder if some of the mint in the box gloves that show up on ebay were from those groups. Glad to hear from TGC again!

Great stuff Joe. Man, to have one of those finds today would be so much fun. Sure wish I was collecting at the time. It was just before I got into the hobby. I remember a lot of the Mace gloves wound up in a Hunt auction and I picked up a few MG's to start that subset of my collection. Thanks for story. Keep 'em coming!

Next post I'll pursue the 1990s and glove collecting interests and pursuits of that era. Taking a look at "Sports Collectors Digest" (Carmi Brandis glove column), various other publications, dealer mailing lists, the TGC newsletters, flea markets, small and large, antique shows, national sports collecting shows, etc. Prior to the entry of ebay and the internet.
LOL! That guy needs to get some huevos because life is a lot harder than that! If you look closely the mannequin in the first photo is actually patting him on his back and consoling him saying "There, there it's going to be all right!" Ha!Ha!

On a serious note, this trade was actually fun to do and it's about damn time we got this one wrapped up JD! You must know that this whole thing has been ongoing for a couple of months with JD and me dropping emails to one another back and forth. We were like boxers sizing each other up in a boxing match. Well he countered this week with an offer and we finally got it done. Glad you like them because they are beauts and I am glad they have a good home. I'm also glad that the boxes made it safely up to your box room and you didn't squash them. That too is a small victory! Yeah Jim! LOL!
I really like my gloves that I got, but unfortunately when I got home the trade winds had already done their thing (there must be a wind tunnel in corona and plainfield) and the wolf pack started to circle the bulldog lair! Aww well!

Joe, thanks for another enjoyable and informative post. I always love to learn as much as I can. It's fascinating how the hobby began as well as the stories involved and no one can tell them quite like you.
